Is it true what they say about coffee consumption and heart palpitations? After a quick perusal of online articles, I came to the conclusion that caffeine-related heart problems are due to a person's genetic make-up and how quickly they are able to metabolize caffeine. Not knowing how efficiently my body is able to process the large quantity of caffeine I consume daily, this is really not comforting to me. But I'm not dead yet, so there's that.
I have always had an affinity for coffee, and the more caffeine the better-- even when I would eat one or five too many chocolate covered espresso beans and I would wind up with a stomach ache. I prefer light roasts and espresso, not only for the taste but for the extra caffeine, and it's so annoying to me when I ask a "barista" if they have a light roast and they respond with "No, but I can dilute the dark roast for you." Um, I don't want weak coffee, I just want a hot cup of joe that doesn't taste like mud. Shouldn't you know that, being a coffee expert and all?
Which brings me to another point-- why are coffee shop people so friggin snooty? I understand that you have to be awake and at work early in the morning and deal with a variety of cranky people jonesin for their brew, but if I'm being pleasant to you then I, at least, expect you to not get an attitude. As someone who has worked in customer service for many, many years I can tell you that its really not that hard to be cordial when you're working with people, even if the customers are completely rude.
I had a convo with my hairdresser about this and she related a rude experience she had at a local coffee spot, a place that I frequent. The girl behind the counter rolled her eyes and made a sarcastic remark when my hairdresser asked for a white mocha. "Ugh, this isn't Starbucks," the barista said. What a jerk.

The white mocha at Royal Grounds is pretty good. My sister gets it EVERY TIME. ;) And they aren't snooty there at all... At least not from what I've seen. I do have a thing for Philz though. :)
