Keeping up with technology

Photobucket

I'm not even twenty-five years old and already I'm feeling like an old fart compared to some of these internet whiz kids-- you know, the thirteen and fourteen year old kids who have followers in the hundreds of thousands and seem to be on the cutting edge of every web-related craze. I only recently joined Tumblr under the advice of some of my colleagues and I'm sad to say that I haven't quite figured it out yet. Okay, so I can post a multitude of things: quotations, photos, links to other websites, videos, as well as text, but the format is a little wacky and I'm perplexed as to how to get people to look at what I post there. Blogging has come a long way, and I feel like a grandma trying to keep up with all this newfangled technology. Darned whippersnappers!

Cyn, aka @Cynderblock, my wise friend, has been helping me find my way through my bewilderment. As a person who has been doing Twitter since 2007, back when I thought Facebook was avant garde, Cyn is very knowledgeable of all things 'net and I value her opinions. When she told me Blogger was antiquated in terms of the amount of people using the site, as well as the kind of people using the site (read: geriatric), I swore I could kick myself. Now that I have invested a decent amount of time and commitment to blogging here regularly I find out that I have been wasting my time using an outdated medium. Ho, hum. What to do?

Don't worry, I'm not about to delete this thing and start from scratch. Again. Nope, I'm going to use my social networking powers and promote the hell out of this blog and my other blog. Yup. I'm going to get out there and do my best to entice readers and get my page views up. Fear not, Blogger, I'm not going to give up on you just yet. Let's face it: I'm not computer-illiterate, but I'm also not a prodigy when it comes to HTML (at all), and this site is pretty easy to use and I'm okay with the way it looks. It's doing its job, and for now I'm just gonna stick with it until I have a real reason to move onto to something grander, like getting famous or something.

PS-- Can we talk about Facebook for a second? I think some of the friend requests I get on there are funny and a little ridiculous-- if we were never friends or even friendly acquaintances in real life, what would make you think I now want you all in my digital grill? Especially if you went out of your way to be a complete bitch to me when we knew each other. Really, you really want to be friends now? But alas, I'm guilty of such idiocy myself, at least partially. I just had to stop myself from requesting the friendship of some dumb broad who put chewing gum in my hair when we were in the first grade together, the same year she pissed her pants during class. I literally had to restrain myself from clicking send, but after I thought about it I'm glad I didn't. Dayum, get a hold of yourself, girl!

I can feel your pain. I'm not really all that into cyber world, but I do try. I can work a computer etc but there are somethings I won't click on if I'm scared or I stick to using the net for what I like.

Even though I have this blog, I still sometimes I can't work it very well. I do enjoy learning but I don't think I'll be all that tech-like; mind you, I own a blackberry haha. that too was a challenge and a half, but it's been about 2 years now, I think I've "figured it out".

ps. I have tumblr too. check them out (the link is on my page but I'll post it here too)
