Tweet the rents, overturning Prop 8, and the best viral vid I've seen in a long time!

For day three of my 30 Tweets to 30 Peeps challenge I will write to my parents. Here goes:

@Ma&Pa I love you both very much. Thanks for raising me the way you did & continuing to help me be a better person & thanks for giving me a sister!

My parents are pretty cool. I can talk to them about most anything without worrying about getting yelled at, though my Ma doesn't like to hear swear words so I try to curb my affinity for cursing when I'm around or on the phone with her. My Pa is an artist and I must have gotten my creativity from him. My mom is a lovely host and wholeheartedly enjoys entertaining company. I got my love of cleaning, cooking and hosting parties from my mom. It's a pretty good mix, I'd say.

In other news, the unconstitutional Proposition 8 has been overturned by a California judge. Kron 4 News was covering the story and had cameras outside the courthouse where people with signs picketed the decision. Their signs announced hateful messages about gay people and "warnings" from god.

One of the buffoons was even interviewed. His thoughts? "Now gay people can get married, decided by some judge who wasn't even elected!" Uh... hello? Judges aren't elected for a reason, dumbass! They're appointed so that impartiality is instilled and to protect against corruption. Can you imagine what the world would be like if any shyster politician could buy a judge's seat?

It makes me angry that people are so insensitive and stupid. If two people love each other and want to get married, then they should be allowed to do so. Using religion as an excuse doesn't work. First of all, we live in the United States, a country where there is a separation of church and state. Your religion shouldn't have a say in the law-making process. Secondly, Jesus taught tolerance, compassion, equality, inclusion, love and forgiveness. If Jesus were around today I think he would be flat-out disappointed in all these "Christians" spewing hatred in his name. Not cool.

To the intolerant nutballs: if you want to live in a totalitarian society where religion dictates how you live your life, then why don't you move to Iran? There you can take all your cues from the Supreme Leader. Not only are they taking active measures to set women back 600 years, but also they hate homosexuals as much as you do. It's the perfect place. Let me get you a burka...

If you read all the way down to here, I congratulate you! I want to cap off this morning post with a hilarious video I found yesterday while perusing the internetz. This is the best viral video I've seen in a very long time. Please watch and be amazed!

Hey

Well said! My god mother is gay and luckily in the UK she was able to commit to her partner of over 10years. The people who show so much hatred towards a gay couple infuriates me. If two people love each other thats all that should matter.

Your parents have obviously raised you well :)

"Let me get you a burka" HA! Love it!
(and by "it" I mean what you wrote, not the burka itself, since I hear they can be itchy, smell funny and are sooooo not fashionable)

Well-written post, the Tsaritsa!

1) your parents do kind of rule.

2) the fundies would never go to Iran--too many brown people.

3) i hope that bandana guy knows how much he's brightened up the internet by being ridiculous.

I'm super close with my parents too! I think of them as friends more than anything!

I'm so happy for Cali that Prop 8 was dropped!

The Gregory Brothers make some of the most hilarious Auto Tune videos. Check out the Auto-Tune the News ones they do.

Also, I wish these hateful, ignorant, hypocritical right wing assholes would just drown themselves at their own tea party, but hey, that's just me. Huh, looks like I'm pretty hateful too.

Well said! I came across this earlier, you've probably seen it already but it seems quite apt:

Love the "tweet" to your parents, so cute!

I feel sorry for the people that are full of hatred towards anything that is different then themselves. I completely agree with everything you said and am so happy that Prop 8 was overturned.

Raising you both has not been easy. On the one hand we wanted you to be free-spirited, open-minded, and independent people. When you have kids with these qualities, there are always lots of opinions floating around, and sometimes some friction, too; unlike in the house where I was raised, where questioning paternal authority and dissent were most definitely not encouraged. Still, I loved my parents very much, and I cut them a lotta slack because they were raised under quite severe circumstances, a long time ago, in a galaxy far away. I am deeply proud of you for your ferocious sense of justice and fair play, your tolerance, and your sense of humor. You rock.

PS: I'm really, really, like totally superly duperly glad you look like your mother.

Ooo, love the thought about Iran. We have NO IDEA how awful they treat their women, gays, and i would hazard a guess -- children, as most of us start out as kids.

Funny -- I wrote a poem earlier today. Should I post this on my blog??...

Reasons I Wouldn't Like Gays...

If he / she...

stole some of my stuff
called me bad names
hit me, or other bodily harm
told lies about me or anyone
didn't stand up to bullies
or if he / she pretty-much did or let
any of those things happen to others.

I hope that comes across as I intended it -- to say that we are all equal, and all done with a loving spirit is good love.

xo

P.S. Your parents sound freaking awesme, tho I am aahamed of me that I curse, and sometimes it slips out in front of my daughter. I shall work on cleaning up my language!

I think Jesus would be disappointed with a lot of things, mostly the apathy. You're parents are adorable. Isn't it funny how you can always see a little bit of yourself in each of them?

He's climbing in your windows, he's snatching your people up, trying to rape 'em so you gotta hide your kids, hide your wife and hide your husband 'cos their raping everybody out here!

Words cannot describe how much I love him. I did a little shout-out to you on my blog dear :)

The guy in that youtube video?

Pretty much exactly what Louisiana is like! It may be boring here sometimes, but at least we have gems like that to entertain us.

I have friends who are gay and whether I had them or not. I think the arguments for why gays shouldn't be married "its against religion" or "it'll lead the way for 3 or more people to get married." is just a crock of bull. I was watching one comedian who said its always like this same thing happened with giving women and black people the right to vote and stopping segregation. there are always people against it saying stupid things as if the world will end if it happens.
