Ides of March Madness

Have people been acting funny today? A little extra snippity, a little kookier? Well, today is the Ides of March, aka March 15th for those of you who need to brush up on their Shakespeare and/or their history, and like the full moon it is a day to be wary of. At least that's what the soothsayer said, and Julius Caesar did end up being slain at the hands of his supposed friends, so I guess the fifteenth of March does bring some weirdness with it. I'm not sure if the stomach ache I woke up with this morning is a symptom of the day or perhaps just something weird I ate last night, but in either case my day began on an unpleasant note. The morning continued on smoothly enough, I did some work, chatted on Twitter with some friends, caught up with some blogs, and would have been unremarkable if I hadn't decide to participate in a TT. A TT, in the Twittersphere, is a trending topic that a lot of people are talking about, and can be just about anything. This one was #ThingsThatNeverGetShoutOuts or "Things That Never Get Shout-Outs." I decided to write one with a lyric from the Ol' Dirty Bastard song, "I Can't Wait." Here's what I wrote, and guess who retweeted it?

You may or may not be familiar with Keys, a rapper fresh on the hip-hop scene and hailing from Balitmore. Bodymore, baby. I became familiar with her music after watching Lil Kim and Nicki Minaj beef videos on Youtube and seeing a bunch of links to her songs. I checked them out and was immediately impressed-- not only was she spitting hot punchlines and exhibiting clever wordplay, but she was tough and not resorting to her sexiness to sell her music.

You don't see that too often these days, so watching Keys for the first time was refreshing to say the least. Anyway, I follow her on Twitter and have since downloaded her mixtape for free (thanks, Lily for telling me about it), which is excellent by the way. I guess she saw my tweet in the Trending Topic column and thought it was funny, because she retweeted it. This totally made my day. I'm such a nerd (which should be obvious by now), geeking out because a hip-hop artist thought my tweet was funny (and super geeking out by dedicating a whole blog post to it)! But you know what's even cooler? She's following me now on Twitter, too. Check it out.

This calls for a celebration! If you happen to walk by my house and I'm wearing high-water pants with suspenders, it's only because I've fully reached geek bliss, illustrated by my transformation into Steve Urkel.
