The ghost of Wyatt Earp?

?The grave of Wyatt and Josephine Earp in Hills...Image via Wikipedia
TNT was running a Tombstone/Wyatt Earp marathon one Sunday and Ben and I felt inspired to head over to Colma to pay our respects to Mr. and Mrs. Earp. We were both surprised that he was buried in a Jewish cemetery, but I suspected that his wife might have been Jewish (which I later verified).

The cemetery itself is very peaceful, but the site was a lot harder to find than we had expected. We found out he was buried there thanks to gravefinder.com, but maybe if I had continued searching I could have found a map of the boneyard with an X on the spot for Mr. Earp.

Row after row of graves, many of them modern and similar looking, lined the hilly fields. I started looking in an older section of the cemetery, reasoning that he died a while ago and therefore he should be with the weathered stones, but all I found in that shady section were clusters of snails gathered on the mossy markers.

In a moment of questionable rationality, I tried calling out to Wyatt himself, asking him to guide me to his resting space. I politely pleaded with him, but no luck.

Just when we were about to turn around and head back to the car, an older gentleman on a bicycle, which had a basket and in it some berries, stopped and said hello to us. We asked him if he knew where the Tombstone Sheriff was buried and said he would show us, which was really nice of him.

He chit-chatted with us as he walked his bicycle down the hill to a section near the front of the cemetery. He took us to the very row and pointed down to the end of it. "That's it," he said and smiled. We thanked him for his help and he was off on his bicycle again, slowly riding up the hill.

I still wonder if my calling out to Mr. Earp prompted this man to appear, or if was all just a coincidence... What do you think?

The tombstone looks relatively new, and the stone isn't any larger or outstanding than anyone else. Some people who came before us have left trinkets and prayer cards or miniature bottles of Jack Daniels, but we just took a moment of silence to pay our respects, and touched the gravestone as we left.
