We were thrilled about the hot desert climate and got to sport our little-worn summer clothes, and even took a dip in the hotel's pool (we never did look for those natural hot springs). Exploring Bodie was a lot of fun and educational. We both took plenty of photos (I with my Holga plastic camera-- still have to get those shots developed-- and my digital camera, and Ben with his iPhone).
Here are half of the photos I took with my digital camera, I'll post the other half next week (my parents are coming to town this Friday so I'm going to be a bit busy). Please enjoy these!
Creepy elevators going down to a mine shaft, presumably. Bodie is a steampunk's dream town. So much rusted antique machinery.
Humungous metal cables to operate the elevators.

The desolate landscape dotted with detritus.
The main rule of Bodie is to preserve the integrity of the state park by not removing any of thousands of artifacts scattered about. This antique glass was so thick and peculiar I wanted to take it, but settled for a photo instead.

The old church in Bodie. We couldn't go inside, but I was able to take these photos from the entranceway. Check out the spooky old organ.

Clowning around with some rusty old equipment. Not sure what this metal basket was used for. Maybe something to do with filtering gold? Just a guess...

Plant growing inside of a hubcap. "Life will find a way."
